Battery drain is a common complaint by Windows 10 and Windows 11 users, but there are a few things that you can do that will help fix this issue. 

Windows offers a lot of features compared to other operating system. However, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11 cause a lot of battery drain as well.

There are various ways you can try to increase your laptop battery life.

Fix the Windows Laptop Battery Drain Issue By Changing the Power Plan


1. Open the settings app using the keyboard shortcut keys Win + I.

2. Select Power and Battery.

3. In the drop-down menu next to Power mode, select Best Power efficiency

Battery Saver


Windows Laptop Battery Saver turns on at 20% by default. For the best battery life, you can change this setting and turn the battery saver on to extend battery life.

1. Open the settings app.

2. Select Power & battery.

3. Click on Battery Saver and expand the option.

4. Select the best battery percentage you want from the drop-down menu next to Turn battery saver on.

Display Settings

Windows display settings drain a lot of battery, so it's always a good option to adjust them.

1. Open quick settings using the keyboard shortcut keys Win + A.

2. Use the slider to reduce the brightness.

Graphics Settings


You can also adjust the graphics settings for apps you suspect are draining your battery.

1. Type "graphics settings" in the search bar and select open.

2. Click on the app you wish to adjust graphics settings for.

3. Select options.

4. Select the power saving option and click on save.

Background Apps

Apps running in the background have a huge influence on laptop battery usage.

1. Open Settings > Power & battery > Battery usage.

2. You will find a list of apps that are using your laptop battery, if you feel any app is unimportant, click on the three vertical dots and select Manage background activity.

3. Now, select Never under the background app's permission.

Video Settings


Regularly using your laptop for streaming videos, watching movies, etc, drains laptop battery life.

1. Open Settings > Apps > Video playback from the right pane.

2. Next to battery options from the drop-down menu, select Optimize for battery life. Also, you can click on the check box next to play video at a lower resolution when on battery.

Troubleshoot

  1. Open settings
  2. Scroll down in system settings and select Troubleshoot
  3. Select other troubleshooters
  4. Locate power in the Other section and click on the Run button
